Ski Bootfitting

Bootfitting area photoGuaranteed Comfort and Performance

Ski boots are the most important ski gear you’ll own, even more than skis. There’s an old adage that the best skis in the world will actually ski poorly without proper boots. When selecting ski boots, there are some key things to keep in mind:

  • Everyone’s feet are different. Why does this matter? Because you can never rely solely on someone else’s opinion of a boot and how it will fit you based on their personal experience, no matter how good a skier they are.
  • Boot manufacturers make so many models of boots because there are a lot of different feet and skiing abilities to accommodate. What’s best for one person is quite likely to be different from what’s best for someone else.

  • Boot technology has advanced considerably, even from just five years ago, including:

  • Lighter weight plastics
  • Materials that are less temperature-sensitive
  • Superior liner technology
  • Better overall fit, enabling longer ski days with less pain and shorter break-in time

  • Fit is king when it comes to ski boots. Regardless of price or color or how cool your boots look, you should always go for fit. No matter what type of foot you have, there’s something appropriate for you, and we can help you find it.
It’s important that the boots be properly sized for your feet’s:

  • Length
  • Width
  • Heel dimension
  • Arch
  • Instep (top of foot right below ankle area)

  • Also, don’t underestimate the importance of foot support. Most manufacturer’s spend a lot of research and development dollars on shell and liner technology, but not much in the way of supporting the foot. It is important to know the following about your feet:
  • Are flat-footed?
  • Do your feet roll to the outside (supernation) or towards the inside (pronation)?

  • The answer to these questions affects the boot choice, consideration of orthotics (footbeds), and possible customization of boots (thermomolding, liner or shell alterations). In order to get you in the right boot, we consider all of these variables. With our crew’s in-depth familiarity with product and years of experience fitting people, we can effectively answer your questions and recommend the right boots for you.

Doc’s Ski Haus guarantees that the boots and orthotics we select for you will fit comfortably and perform well.
